as most of my friends know that i work in ABS-CBN, and most of my shows are MYX programs. my client/friend/segment producer was doing a story of the ERASERHEADS for MYXposed. both of us being an E-HEADS fan, we always stop and ask "will they play music together?", and always end up sayin "nah..." not until it was the 'talk of the town' that there will be a REUNION concert, and thus, it is true!!! as we all know, it was almost cancelled due to the department of hell, este, heat, este, health's issue regarding its sponsor. now it had pushed thru, my wife was able to get a hold of SVIP tickets! damn' it was getting exciting!
aug 30, 2008. the big night. we went to Bonifacio Global City around 4pm. gates were open at 3pm and show will start at 8pm. my wife and two of her officemates were with us to watch the concert. by 7pm we were at the gates but for our dismay, studded belts, wallets with chain, perfume bottles and lighters were not allowed so we had to go back around a kilometer to the parking lot and keep our things in the car. now, inside the venue, i saw old and new friends. college barkadas, people from work and some celebrity friends. (by the way, nice to see you again Johnny Alegre after 12 years!)
the concert started around 8:20pm and as the ERASERHEADS rose from the stage and played 'ALAPAAP' as thier first song, people were so excited and full of amazement because of the unbelievable reunion of the guys. they played i think around 10 songs, sorry i lost count because i was enjoying the moment, hehehe, memories of fun. i was so elated that i wouldn't blame myself if i'd shed a tear of thinking these guys were together in the early 90's, hit it big and became famous, they disbanded and had their own bands after. to cut the long story short: after all of these, they were back together again even for just one night (so i hope you understand how 'emotional' i got when i saw them together..).
another emotional thing happend. as the last song finished, i saw ELI sat on the floor where he was playing, and he walked towards the backstage looking tired after playing the set. so i got a little worried that maybe something wrong might happen.. during the whole concert, beside me was my college classmate (such a small world) which happens to be the brother or RAYMUND. now, during the break, i saw him over the mobile phone and looked serious. after getting a drink (which was free from our end), he was gone. i told my wife, i sense that there is something wrong.
true enough, after more than 30mins, BUDDY, RAYMUND, MARCUS, the concert's sponsors and ELI's sister LALI went up to the stage to break the sad news as the rest of the guys were still in shock.
"We regret to inform you that we have to cut the concert short. My brother had to be rushed to hospital because of emotional and physical stress he is experiencing,"
Francis Lumen of MTV, requested to say a minute of prayer for ELI. and everybody did.
ELI, our prayer are with you man.. GET WELL SOON!
